Corinne is passionate about vintage, which she discovered in London at the age of 15. Since then she has created her online sales site, specialized in clothes and accessories from the 50s to the 80s, then opened a real shop. She tells us about these revolutionary years in clothing: the sixties.
- How to characterize the fashion of the sixties?
"The sixties were a revolutionary phase in the history of the connection with the arrival of a varied fashion, bold, graphic, tart, comfortable (the withdrawal of the corset, the pants for the ladies, the tights ...), sometimes sexy but especially resolutely modern. The garment takes a youthful look. "
- What is the charm of this fashion of the 60s in your opinion?
"She comes from the street, she can be elegant or crazy but always refined. Beyond the fashion aspect, what fascinates me in the clothes of this period, it is the materials used (side of the mesh, plastic and synthetic materials ...) but also the finishing of each garment. Things that have disappeared with the arrival of ready-to-wear clothing and large-scale clothing. "
What are the "flagship" pieces of the sixties?
"The most iconic piece is certainly the mini-skirt. But they are also the tights, the American armhole dresses, the oversized glasses, the boots, the bikini ... And especially of great creators: Courrèges, Cardin, etc. "
- Can we say that the 60's are still in fashion?
"You only have to watch fashion magazines or showcases of ready-to-wear boutiques to get to the obvious: vintage is trendy and the '60s are more than ever in fashion.
Current fashion is inspired by the past. For proof, the coming on our stands during shows dedicated to the vintage of renowned designers or young designers. This is also verified in the furniture and the object.
Since the 60s the success of the mini-skirt has never been denied. That of the dress called "holes", the print gingham or liberty either. More than ever today, the street guides its choices and makes fashion. And the street has a real craze for the retro ... Except for some insiders passionate about vintage fashion and perhaps nostalgic of a period, rare are the people who dare a retro "total look". On the other hand, selecting and wearing a vintage piece on an outfit is very "trendy". "
- Did the 60's really finally come out of the limelight?
" Yes and no. The key pieces such as the mini-skirt have always been present. For some parts (cigarette pants, dress chasuble ...), I would say that indeed they had a little disappeared until the end of the 80s. I have the impression (it's very personal) that it is at that time that fashion stopped proposing new things and that she went digging in the past. This reflection is not valid for haute couture. "
- What advice could you give us to be in the 60s fashion?
"I would suggest you go to a vintage shop and look for a real original piece (scratched or not) for the pleasure of shopping, to offer a second life to a garment but also for the satisfaction of having a room unique.
All major brands also find vintage inspired dresses with retro haircuts, graphic prints ...
What can be fun and give ideas to create a sixties look is to draw inspiration from celebrities from the yéyé era. Sylvie Vartan or Brigitte Bardot was THE references to follow in terms of fashion. "
